Let your journey be safe, the “white caravan”!

On September 9, the cotton-harvesting campaign started in Turkmenistan. The important agricultural campaign was launched with the blessing of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the Ahal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary velayats. The “white campaign” in the Dashoguz velayat will start on September 16 due to the local soil and climatic conditions.

Cotton growing is an important sector of Turkmenistan’s agroindustrial complex that makes a profound contribution to the implementation of the state export promotion and import substitution programmes, developed under the leadership of the head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Our country has the natural and climatic conditions conducive to growing medium-fibre and fine-fibre cotton varieties.

The potential of the agricultural sector is growing through the implementation of drastic reforms, the key aspects of which include the development of a modern production and service infrastructure, sustainable land and water management and the improvement of farming standards.

Significant financial resources are allocated for irrigation, land reclamation and the modernisation of the agricultural fleet. For these purposes, the state regularly purchases agricultural machinery from the world’s biggest manufacturers.

Last year, 300 John Deere 9970 harvesters were purchased under the contract between Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection with John Deere Walldorf GmbH & Co. KG (Germany) in accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. By the beginning of this year’s cotton campaign, 300 John Deere 9970 combine harvesters that show good results in the local soil and climatic conditions of Turkmenistan have been delivered. On September 8, the Turkmen leader inspected the combine harvesters and instructed the high-ranking officials to ensure the effective use and maintenance of those agricultural machines.

A John Deere 9970 combine harvester has a comfortable cabin and is easy to use and cost effective. It has the increased productivity, due to its large bunker as well. In 2017–2018, our country purchased 400 John Deere 9970 combine harvesters.

According to the instructions of the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the work on the creation of cotton and textile clusters in the regions is underway. A number of industrial complexes, each of which is designed to process 5,000 tonnes of fine-fibre cotton, are currently under construction in the Ahal velayat. The enterprises under construction in the Kaahka and Babadayhan etraps will produce compact penye yarn, cotton fabrics and ready-made garments.

In accordance with the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan, this year the cotton plantation area has been expanded to 620,000 hectares. In the spring, such medium- and fine-fibre cotton varieties as “Yoloten-7”, “Dashoguz-120”, “Dashoguz-144”, “Serdar”, “S-4727”, “Yoloten-39”, “Jeyhun”, “S -2606” and “Yoloten-14” were sown in this area.
Private agricultural producers, who have received plots from the special agricultural land fund, are engaged in growing cotton.

It is planned to harvest 1,25 million tonnes of “white gold” from the fields throughout the country, including 280,000 tonnes in the Ahal velayat, 10,000 tonnes in the Balkan velayat, 275,000 tonnes in the Dashoguz velayat, 320,000 tonnes in the Lebap velayat and 365,000 tonnes in the Mary velayat.

In harvesting and transporting cotton 1,000 John Deere 9970 cotton harvesters, 500 MX-1.8 trailed cotton harvesters, 2,000 trucks, 2,370 tractors and 3,714 tractor trailers will be engaged.

In accordance with the instructions of the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, round-the-clock technical and service maintenance of the vehicles and equipment that are to ensure the smooth operation of the cotton-harvesting conveyor are provided in the fields, and the proper conditions for productive work and recreation of machine operators, drivers and cotton pickers are created.

A defoliant was purchased in the required amount. It will be used before machine harvesting. As always, together with specialised tractors, civil aircrafts will be engaged in applying a defoliant.

For this year’s cotton harvest, 157 procurement stations and 39 ginneries have been prepared. Laboratory specialists of the Türkmenstandartlary State Service will ensure thorough control of the quality of the products.

The Central Council of the Agrarian Party, the Political Council of the Democratic Party, the central bodies of other public organisations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection, the Daýhanbank State Commercial Bank and the editorial offices of the Galkynyş, Nesil and Bereketli Toprak Newspapers have announced an annual contest to encourage tenants, cotton growers, mulkdars, farmers and drivers to achieve labour victories in the 2020 cotton-harvesting campaign.

The first caravans of lorries and tractor trailers, loaded to the top with “white gold” and decorated with the State Flags, carpets and banners arrived at the procurement stations and ginneries in the Tejen etrap in the Ahal velayat, the Halach etrap in the Lebap velayat, the Sakarchaga etrap in the Mary velayat and the Serdar etrap in the Balkan velayat.

Following an ancient tradition, the highly esteemed elders gave their blessing to the cotton-harvesting campaign. They offered up prayers to the Almighty for the wellbeing and prosperity of the Motherland and the people under the wise leadership of the head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The “white caravans” were headed by camels laden with bags full of cotton, accompanied by horsemen on Ahalteke horses – a living illustration of the centuries-old history of cotton growing of the Turkmen people.

The festive events included exhibitions of agricultural machinery, agricultural products and textile goods and the tournaments in national sports. Valuable gifts were presented on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the best agricultural workers – cotton growers who had grown a rich cotton harvest.
