Winter wheat sowing starts in Turkmenistan

On September 2, mass sowing of winter wheat began in Turkmenistan. With the blessing of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, an important agricultural campaign was launched simultaneously in all velayats of the country.

Stressing the importance of carrying out the sowing campaign in an orderly and proper manner, the national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished the grain growers and also all agricultural workers good health, happy and prosperous life, rich harvests and successful achievement of their goals.

According to a good folk tradition, after offering a prayer to the Almighty for sending down a generous and sound harvest of ak bugday, the venerable elders blessed the beginning of sowing. Throwing the first seeds of winter wheat into the well-prepared soil with the words “Her bir dänäň müň bolsun!” (“Let every planted seed grow into a full-fledged ear!”), the elders and their young assistants passed on the symbolic relay of the sowing campaign to machine operators.

The country’s grain fields will occupy 690 thousand hectares of land, from which farmers are to collect 1 million 400 thousand tonnes of grain in 2021, including 400,000 tonnes in the Ahal velayat, 345,000 tonnes in Mary, 310,000 tonnes in Lebap, 265,000 tonnes in Dashoguz and 80,000 tonnes in Balkan.

Following the instructions of the national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Turkmen farmers prepared for the responsible campaign with particular care, ploughing and fertilising agricultural lands intended for next year’s wheat harvest in time. High-quality seeds of such high-yield varieties of food wheat as “Sahrayi”, “Juvan”, “Bitarap”, “Yoloten-1”, “Yoloten-3”, “Turkmenbashi-1”, “Gyzylshaglavuk-25”, “Miras”, “Akbash”, “Shanly”, “Hasylly” and “Vatan”.

As TDH was informed at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection, as a whole in Turkmenistan, 2,583 ploughing tractors and 7,605 row-crop ones of the John Deere, CLAAS, Case, Belarus-80H and Belarus-82.1 brands and also 1,723 sowing machines, equipment and other technical means would be involved in the current campaign to increase the productivity of farmers’ labour.

A good help for farmers will be new machinery received this year, which will help them carry out the sowing campaign at the optimal time, which is a key to gathering a good harvest. In particular, these are 155 John Deere tractors equipped with a telematic digital electronic control system.
The dynamic development of agriculture is a significant direction of the policy of 

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, aimed at strengthening the economic power of the Motherland, increasing the wellbeing of the people. In this sphere, large-scale transformations, designed to help solve problems in the field of import substitution and increase the export potential of the agroindustrial complex by increasing the production of various agricultural goods, are being successfully carried out.

As part of the agrarian reform, specific measures are being taken to digitalise the branch, to introduce the latest technologies and innovations and to increase labour productivity by raising the level of the mechanisation of crop production and expanding the private sector.

Significant investments are directed to the construction of modern agro-processing enterprises, elevators, mill complexes with shops for the procurement of selected seed wheat and plants for the production of mineral fertilisers.

Along with this, within the framework of the programmes of the socioeconomic development of the country until 2025 and the National Rural Programme, approved by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, major investment projects, which radically change the life of the Turkmen village, are being implemented.

On the occasion of the beginning of sowing winter crops in such farmers’ associations as Gyavers of the Ak Bugday etrap, Ahal velayat, Turkmenistan of the Bereket etrap, Balkan velayat, Turkmenistan of the Gubadag etrap, Dashoguz velayat, Vatan of the Charjev etrap, Lebap velayat, and Turkmenistan of the Vekilbazar etrap, Mary velayat, seminars were held with the participation of representatives of the velayat and etrap hyakimliks, heads of farmers’ associations, agronomists, machine operators, tenants-grain growers and elders.

In particular, at the seminars, the issues of the organised holding of the sowing campaign and the use of modern agricultural techniques and best practices in the cultivation of cereals, undoubtedly helping farmers to sow strategically important crops in the most favourable terms and with high quality, were discussed in detail.

Exhibitions of products manufactured by enterprises of the country’s agroindustrial complex, and the latest machinery available in the agricultural branch were organised as well. On the occasion of the start of the sowing campaign, song and dance ensembles and folk groups prepared a concert programme.
